Aaron Rodgers isn’t making any declarations about his future just yet.
Following a cryptic Instagram post Monday night, the NFL MVP joined The Pat McAfee Show on Tuesday and said he still isn’t ready to share his plans.
“Let me just put this disclaimer out there right away for the few people watching that are tuning in just for a specific, maybe news, and decision,” Rodgers said. “There will be no news today, no decision on my future. As I was texting with you yesterday, I just got out of a 12-day Panchakarma. … So I’m just getting my head above the sand right now and seeing what’s going on out there. But no decision about my future today.”

Rodgers reiterated that he doesn’t plan to drag out questions about his future — whether he intends to return to Green Bay, request a trade, or retire — but noted there is a lot to consider. One thing he made sure to mention is Davante Adams‘ situation, with the star receiver set to be a free agent (the window for teams to use the franchise tag opened Tuesday).
“I understand also today, I believe, might be the first day to tag players,” Rodgers said. “In Green Bay, there’s this one specific guy who’s like the best guy in the entire league at what he does, that wears, like, I think No. 17, you might’ve heard of him. There’s obviously an opportunity to tag him at some point, which I don’t think both parties probably want that done; they’d rather get a long-term extension done. But understand, that’s a part of the decision that I talked about, not wanting to drag this thing out.”
While he puts off any announcement, Rodgers noted that he’s not fretting his future one way or another.
“I don’t have anxiety about the decision,” he said. “I get it, there’s not a lot to talk about football-wise and this’ll be a topic of conversation. But I am looking forward to making the decision and moving forward. I think it’s best for me, it’s best for the team, it’s best for all parties involved. Let’s just get this behind us. … But there’s conversations to be had and a few more things to contemplate. It won’t be long. I’m not gonna hold anybody hostage in this. I’m not gonna do that. Obviously, I want to feel certain about it and when I do, I’ll make a decision, and we’ll just move on and move forward.”
NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport previously reported that Rodgers spent extra time with the Packers brass discussing his future following Green Bay’s playoff exit. The QB’s relationship is in a better spot than it had been last offseason.
“There was a lot to kind of unpack in some of the postseason exit interviews,” Rodgers said when asked about the report. “…I just wanted to make sure I got to see a lot of those people who I knew had the possibility of either moving on or getting other opportunities. So that obviously kept me in town for a few days. Then I wanted to have a meeting with [general manager] Brian [Gutekunst] and [exec] Russ [Ball] and [head coach] Matt [LaFleur], as well. I would say the meetings were much different than they’ve been in the past in a positive way and that there were some real honest conversations that I appreciated. …
“What a year, right? I hope things get a little quiet. Make this decision and let me just enjoy myself.”
Until Rodgers finally announces his intentions, there will be no quiet this NFL offseason.
On the same day they traded away Matt Ryan to the Indianapolis Colts, the Atlanta Falcons are signing quarterback Marcus Mariota to a two-year deal, the team announced.
New Orleans is re-signing quarterback Jameis Winston to a two-year, $28 million contract with $21 million in guarantees, NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport reported Monday.
The quarterback carousel kept spinning Monday, as the Colts acquired Matt Ryan. The QB’s former teammates in Atlanta, his future teammates in Indianapolis and others around the league reacted to the move.
Indianapolis is acquiring veteran QB Matt Ryan from Atlanta for a third-round pick in the 2022 draft, per NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, Mike Garafolo and Tom Pelissero.
Chris Godwin recently signed a new three-year contract to stay with the Buccaneers. The veteran receiver said Monday that Tom Brady’s return to Tampa changes everything for a team back in Super Bowl-mode.
Baltimore’s utility man is staying in Charm City. The Ravens agreed Monday to a three-year deal with fullback Patrick Ricard. Plus, the Giants added a RB, and a veteran QB returned to Buffalo.
Trent Brown won’t be leaving New England after all. NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported that Brown agreed to terms on a new two-year contract with the Patriots.
New Bengals OT La’el Collins proclaimed to QB Joe Burrow that his new bodyguard is in town after signing a three-year deal.
A decision on Matt Ryan’s future in Atlanta will come today. NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Monday morning that the Falcons have fielded trade calls the last few days centered around the former MVP QB.
Justin Herbert has a new toy to play with. The Chargers are signing veteran tight end Gerald Everett to a two-year, $12 million deal, Ian Rapoport reports. The pact includes $8 million fully guaranteed and a max value of $13.5 million.
Departing Dallas and arriving in Cincinnati, La’el Collins is the latest addition to the Bengals’ rebuilt offensive line. Collins is signing with the Bengals, Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo report.
Outside linebacker Kamu Grugier-Hill agreed to a one-year, $4 million deal with the Texans, Ian Rapoport reports.
