SOMERSET, N.J. — First-year Rachel Glowniak and head coach Becky Kregling of the Sacred Heart University women’s bowling team highlighted the Northeast Conference awards that were revealed during the first day of the conference tournament last Thursday.
Glowniak was the top first-year performer in the NEC and earned both Rookie of the Year and First-Team All-NEC honors. She is SHU’s first Rookie of the Year since Nicole Trudell in 2011.
A two-time NEC Rookie of the Week, Glowniak posted a 21.04 overall frame average and a fill percentage of 88.5%. She was the team leader in spares with a 74.7% spare conversion rate. A product of Dunkirk, Glowniak also accumulated 100 strikes out of 183 attempts against NEC foes.
For the fifth time in her coaching career, Kregling earned Coach of the Year after leading the Pioneers to their fifth NEC Regular Season title. Kregling guided the team to a 16-5 conference mark which included back-to-back 6-1 records from NEC Meet 1 and 2. The Pioneers were ranked 16th in the NTCA National Poll in February.
Junior Hannah Manetta joined Glowniak on the First-Team list as she bowled nearly every frame for the Red & White and is the team-leader with 111 strikes. Manetta earned her first All-NEC distinction.
Graduate student Colby Jones earned her fourth-consecutive All-Conference laurel as she represents SHU on Second-Team. During her career, Jones has earned two NEC Second-Team nods as well as First-Team just a year ago. A staple in the SHU lineup, she posted an overall fill percentage of 81.9%. The Virginia Beach, Va. native helped the Pioneers to their regular season crown in the most recent NEC meet as she was the team’s high scorer with 20.63 per frame across 70 total, and led in strikes at 49% (34-70).
A five-time NEC Rookie of the Week recipient, first-year Nancy Kohut rightfully earned a spot on the All-Rookie list along with Glowniak. Kohut posts a 19.82 frame average and an 80.3% fill percentage during NEC play. She also posted 91 strikes and 51.1% of her throws knocked down every pin.
The 2022 All-NEC list marks the 12th consecutive season that SHU placed bowlers on First Team. The Pioneers look to continue their decorated tradition at the NEC Tournament which kicked off today and will conclude on Saturday in Hamilton, N.J.
