Crews respond to an Eagle Street fire on Wednesday night in the village.
Just before 8:45 p.m. Wednesday, a harrowing call came over local scanners. A structure fire at 138 Eagle St. had a mother and her children trapped in a second-floor apartment.
Firefighters were asked to be on the lookout for an open window from the family’s apartment once they arrived.
Within minutes, however, Fredonia Fire Department had everything under control. Upon arrival, firefighters found light smoke conditions, and a small fire on the porch by the door of the structure that houses a number of apartments.
The fire was quickly extinguished and occupants were evacuated without incident.
Firefighters used a fan to evacuate smoke from the building. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Fredonia Police and Alstar Ambulance also responded to the scene.
