Nebraska Science Festival kicks off today with events – Kearney Hub

The Nebraska Science Festival begins today and runs through April 30, with a myriad of science and technology-related activities.
Participating cities include Ashland, Bellevue, Denton, Grand Island, Gretna, Kearney, Lincoln, North Platte, Omaha, Raymond and Wayne.
The science festival, launched in 2012 by the University of Nebraska Medical Center, lets participants discover the importance of science and how it is intertwined in our daily lives. Activities are interactive, relevant and fun for kids and adults.
Activities will be promoted on NeSciFest.com, as well as on Twitter (@NESciFest) and Facebook (NE SciFest). Some indoor events require the wear of masks.

n Ask a Meteorologist virtual event with KETV NewsWatch 7’s Meteorologist Caitlin Harvey. Virtual event, Nebraska Science Festival Facebook page, 10-11 a.m. April 28.
n Virtual Omaha Science Café — Discover an environment that uses sensors to assess a person’s physiological or psychological state and then adjusts (lighting, sound, projections) to help someone self-regulate. Learn about this via Zoom or livestream on the UNMC Science Cafe Facebook page (Facebook account not needed to view). 9 a.m. April 13.
n Explore The Science of Memory with UNMC — Join Opera Omaha at The Benson Theater or via livestream for a new production of Eugene Onegin. The community conversation will explore the science of memory with UNMC scientists David Warren, PhD, and John O’Hara, PsyD. Free admission, but registration is required. 6 p.m. April 12.

Rachel Frazier, 29, of Norfolk is charged in Buffalo County Court with felony terroristic threats on March 19. On that date the Kearney Police Department received a report of Frazier allegedly making threats toward others online.

At each business the clerks were cited for procuring alcohol to a minor.

When officers contacted the four adults inside they noticed suspcious activity, and an open container of alcohol.

In exchange for his plea the Buffalo County Attorney’s Office reduced the charge from a felony to a misdemeanor.

There will be at least one new face on the Kearney Public Schools Board of Education because incumbent Alex Straatmann has decided not to seek another four-year term.

The director of advancement will focus on fundraising for the school and working closely with school administration and the school board to meet the needs of KCHS.

The city of Kearney has advised citizens that the city is evaluating the intersections on First Avenue from Railroad Street to 25th Street to improve traffic flow along that segment of roadway.

Shawn Paitz, 49, was sentenced last week in Buffalo County Court to serve 15 days in jail, pay a $500 fine, and was placed on one-year probation for misdemeanor solicitation of prostitution on Aug. 26, 2021.

The Nebraska Department of Transportation has announced winners of its inaugural “Name a Snowplow” contest, and the elementary school with the most winning names is Bloomfield.

Trent Loos said his farming and media experience will help Nebraskans unite, regardless of where they live.
