Syracuse, N.Y. — The National Weather Service on Saturday issued a winter weather advisory for Central New York, with some areas expected to see as much as 9 inches of snow.
The advisory for southern Cayuga, Onondaga and Madison counties begins at 11 p.m. Saturday and will stay in effect until 8 a.m. Monday, according to the weather service.
Lake effect snow could bring between 3 and 6 inches of snow accumulation, with wind gusts up to 40 mph.
Sunday night could also see wind chill temperatures as low as zero to 10 degrees below zero.
An advisory was also issued for Oswego, Jefferson and Lewis counties from 8 p.m. Saturday until 8 a.m. Monday, according to the service.
Between 5 and 9 inches of total snow accumulation is possible, especially across the Tug Hill Plateau, the weather service said. Wind gusts could reach as high as 35 mph, producing blowing and drifting snow.
Travel will be difficult at times with snow covered, slippery roads and poor visibility, according to the weather service.
