Some welcomed news has arrived on Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubravka. It emerged last week that the 33-year-old was isolating from his Slovakian teammates due to what was described as angina.
It was reported earlier today that it was in fact an illness that kept Martin out of Slovakia’s two friendlies, a defeat against Norway on Friday and tomorrow’s match against Finland in Spain.
The Chronicle is adding some more information on Dubravka’s condition. He is suffering from an infection but is expected to be able to train this week in preparation for Saturday’s trip to Tottenham.
This is a reassuring report as Martin should be in contention for a start barring any setbacks. Dubravka has started the last 18 matches in all competitions since reclaiming the number one gloves from Karl Darlow in November.
Martin is coming into some good form of late. Newcastle’s goalkeeping has suffered at times this season with Freddie Woodman, Karl Darlow, and Dubravka all having bouts of bad form.
Dubravka has looked like his old self in recent weeks. So having him on board for Tottenham will be a boost. Eddie Howe will be pushing the lads to halt a two-match slide with the relegation fray still in play.
There has been talk since the winter window that Howe sees goalkeeping as a priority in the summer. Newcastle have been linked with Manchester United’s Dean Henderson, Arsenal’s Bernd Leno, and Chelsea’s Kepa as potential loan options to push Dubravka next season.

Lesh – to be honest, I don’t pay that much attention. I hear of Jib but I didn’t really get involved in the ins and outs of that story at the time. More recently, I know OP has disappeared but I don’t know if he was banned or chose to stop posting.
I just wasn’t sure what current poster you were referring to as being the alt of someone who had been banned.

I had three cat scans and a full body bone scan two weeks ago to check on the spread of my prostate cancer.
The cancer is still progressing, but the rate of progression has been slowed by the addional medication I have been prescribed – XTANDI.
Stage four prostate cancer is terminal, but I hope to be around for a while yet.
