SAN ANTONIO – A residential building at a Northwest Side apartment complex was destroyed in a “suspicious” blaze that involved multiple dumpster fires on Thursday morning, according to the San Antonio Fire Department.
SAFD Chief Charles Hood said five residents in that building were displaced, and eight units were at a total loss. No one was injured, he said.
The fire was reported just before 9 a.m. at the Silver Oaks apartments in the 7500 block of Ingram Road, not far from Potranco Road.
When firefighters arrived, they found multiple dumpsters on fire, Hood said. They then realized that an apartment building was also on fire.
Authorities evacuated area residents and some pets as firefighters went defensive on the fire, Hood said.
He added that “there’s pretty much nothing left” of that building. A nearby residential building was also damaged from smoke and water.
At this time the cause remains under investigation but Hood said it “is suspicious.”
A man who lived in the now-destroyed building was recently evicted, so he is a person of interest, Hood said.
Arson investigators were called to the scene.
“Our main concern right now is to get Red Cross involved” to help the displaced residents, he said.
KSAT has a crew at the scene. This story will be updated as more information becomes available.
