Good news for Cambodia again as daily Omicron total remains low – Khmer Times

After the rise of Omicron in Cambodia, case numbers appear to now be dropping to lower levels as the trend of double digit case numbers continues.
Today’s official daily new COVID case total (diagnosed by PCR test) was 33- all the Omicron variant – bringing the COVID case total to 135,747 cases.
Cambodia also announced 0 new deaths, bringing the total to 3,054 direct deaths from COVID-19 in Cambodia.
The Kingdom recorded 33 new community and 0 new imported cases of the new variant.
Cambodia has now recorded 15,306 cases of Omicron – 1353 imported and 13953 community cases.
There are now 618 active COVID cases (diagnosed by PCR test) in The Kingdom.
COVID – and Omicron – figures appear to be stabilising in Cambodia.
This is due, in part, to the success of the widespread vaccination campaign with Cambodia being on an upwards trajectory to reach up to 15 million people to receive at least a single  dose of the COVID-19 vaccine.
In addition, close to eight million Cambodians have received their third dose of COVID-19 vaccine
On the other side of the border,  arrivals from Cambodia accounted for a whopping 30 out of the total 62 imported cases of COVID-19 reported in Thailand on Friday.
However, World Health Organization (WHO) representative to Cambodia Li Ailan said on Saturday that the COVID-19 pandemic in the country is not over yet, though the number of new infections has once again declined to two digits.
Even though Cambodian cases are not being widely reported, 50% of new imported cases in Thailand came from Cambodia on Friday – showing that Omicron seems to be very much ‘alive and kicking’
After October’s spectacular downwards trend in reported cases – a result of a policy of not counting ‘rapid’ testing and ‘mild’ cases of COVID-19 in the official daily case figures – daily case figures dropped strikingly.
However, the advent of Omicron has now meant that case figures had now been travelling rapidly up again into the triple digit range, but have now dropped again – as illustrated in the graph below (please note results may be up to 2 days behind)

Looking at other figures, the total number of Community Cases is now 114,537  with 21210 cases being imported.
Cambodia also announced 0 new deaths, bringing the total to 3,054 direct deaths from COVID-19 in Cambodia.
95 recoveries were announced – there are now 618 active COVID cases diagnosed by PCR test in Cambodia.
