Unfortunately, they seem less than thrilled by the invitation, with the General immediately ruling it out and the Olympian responding on Twitter with the laughing face emoji.\u00a0<br \/>Slimani, who has been appointed by Emmanuel Macron as a cultural ambassador, reacted by saying: &#8220;Nothing would give me greater horror.&#8221;<br \/><strong>Mentor snubs<\/strong><br \/>It was also a bad weekend for Anne Hidalgo as her former political mentor &#8211; and retired mayor of Paris &#8211; Bertrand Delano\u00eb announced that he would not be voting for her.<br \/>The ex mayor, who belonged to Hidalgo&#8217;s Parti Socialiste, has announced that he will be voting for Macron, as he did in 2017, telling the Journal du Dimanche &#8220;I voted for him in 2017 hoping he would be a good President. I will vote for him again in 2022 knowing he will be a good President.&#8221;<br \/><strong>Republican march<\/strong><br \/>It was a better weekend for the far-left candidate Jean-Luc M\u00e9lenchon, who had a good turnout in Paris for his &#8216;March for the 6th republic&#8217; &#8211; 100,000 people according to a count from his own campaign team.\u00a0<br \/>He told the crowd that he would &#8220;freeze prices and raise the minimum wage to \u20ac1,400 a month&#8221; on his first day in office, if elected. His team are pushing hard the notion of the <em>vote utile<\/em> (useful vote) saying that for leftists, any vote for a candidate other than M\u00e9lenchon is a vote thrown away.<br \/>Article continues below video<br \/>Polling at around 12 percent, he has some catching up to do to beat Marine Le Pen (currently on 17 percent) and make it into the second round with Macron.<br \/><strong>Sports days<\/strong><br \/>Prime minister Jean Castex, a keen rugby fan who hails from France&#8217;s rugby heartland of the south west, was at the Stade de France on Saturday to see the French team win the Six Nations tournament with a Grand Slam.<br \/><img loading=\"lazy\" class=\"size-full wp-image-682413\" src=\"https:\/\/apiwp.thelocal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/000_326H8QV.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"1024\" height=\"682\" srcset=\"https:\/\/apiwp.thelocal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/000_326H8QV.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/apiwp.thelocal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/000_326H8QV-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/apiwp.thelocal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/000_326H8QV-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/apiwp.thelocal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/000_326H8QV-80x53.jpg 80w, https:\/\/apiwp.thelocal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/000_326H8QV-110x74.jpg 110w, https:\/\/apiwp.thelocal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/000_326H8QV-646x431.jpg 646w, https:\/\/apiwp.thelocal.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/03\/000_326H8QV-846x563.jpg 846w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><br \/>Meanwhile finance minister Bruno Le Maire was posting pre-jogging selfies on Sunday.<\/p>\n<p><a style=\"color: #c9c8cd; font-family: Arial,sans-serif; font-size: 14px; font-style: normal; font-weight: normal; line-height: 17px; text-decoration: none;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CbVJKBiADhf\/?utm_source=ig_embed&amp;utm_campaign=loading\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener external noreferrer\" data-wpel-link=\"external\">A post shared by Bruno Le Maire (@brunolemaire)<\/a><br \/><script async src=\"\/\/www.instagram.com\/embed.js\"><\/script><\/p>\n<p><strong>Hunting Q&amp;A<\/strong><br \/>The hunting lobby <em>La F\u00e9d\u00e9ration nationale des chasseurs<\/em> is setting up its own campaign event with candidates on an issue that is gaining increasing profile during the election.<br \/>As well as animal rights issues there are increasing concerns over safety &#8211; every year passers-by are accidentally shot and killed by hunters and many living in rural areas <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thelocal.fr\/20181007\/how-to-stay-alive-during-frances-hunting-season\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-wpel-link=\"internal\">say they feel unsafe going outdoors<\/a> during the hunting season.<br \/>It is for this reason that both green candidate Yannick Jadot and M\u00e9l\u00e9nchon have proposed banning hunting at weekends and during school holidays.
