If that were to occur, it would make him the first American president to face criminal charges.<br \/><strong class=gnt_ar_b_al>Attorneys quit:<\/strong><a href=\"\/story\/news\/politics\/2022\/02\/23\/ny-prosecutors-trump-inquiry-resign\/6913418001\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-t-l=\":b|e|inline click|${u}\" class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\">Two New York prosecutors leading Trump inquiry resign from Manhattan District Attorney&#8217;s Office<\/a><br \/>Danielle Filson, a spokesperson for the Manhattan district attorney&#8217;s office, told USA TODAY on Thursday that the investigation is ongoing.<br \/>\u201cA team of experienced prosecutors is working every day to follow the facts and the law,&#8221; she said.\u00a0&#8220;There is nothing we can or should say at this juncture about an ongoing investigation.\u201d<br \/>Pomerantz, hired by the district attorney preceding Bragg to assist with the Trump inquiry, is a former federal prosecutor known for his expertise in white-collar investigations, while Dunne served as general counsel and had been advising the district attorney on\u00a0legal, policy and strategic issues while overseeing &#8220;significant investigations&#8221; like the Trump inquiry and the &#8220;reinvestigation of the assassination of Malcolm X,&#8221; <a href=\"\/story\/news\/politics\/2022\/02\/23\/ny-prosecutors-trump-inquiry-resign\/6913418001\/\" style=\"background-color:#fff\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-t-l=\":b|e|inline click|${u}\" class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\">USA TODAY previously reported<\/a>.\u00a0<br \/>The pair resigned Feb. 23.<br \/>The investigation into Trump&#8217;s business operations<a href=\"\/story\/news\/politics\/2022\/01\/19\/new-york-ag-says-trumps-company-misled-banks-tax-officials\/6575841001\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-t-l=\":b|e|inline click|${u}\" class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\"> in July produced criminal charges<\/a> against the Trump Organization and its chief financial officer, Allen Weisselberg. The prosecutors detailed an alleged tax evasion conspiracy that spanned more than a decade.<br \/>In February, a New York judge ruled Trump\u00a0and two of his children \u2014 Ivanka and Donald Jr. \u2014\u00a0<a href=\"\/story\/news\/politics\/2022\/02\/17\/ny-judge-donald-trump-must-testify-business-practices\/6831124001\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" data-t-l=\":b|e|inline click|${u}\" class=\"gnt_ar_b_a\">would have to testify<\/a>\u00a0in the civil fraud investigation,\u00a0summarily rejecting the former president&#8217;s request to disallow subpoenas.<br \/>Liz Harrington, a spokesperson for Trump&#8217;s office, told USA TODAY in an email that Trump &#8220;did nothing wrong&#8221; and called Pomerantz a &#8220;Radical Left lawyer.&#8221;<br \/>&#8220;It\u2019s troubling how politicized our justice system has become, where Democrats are loaned out to gin up crimes against their political opponents,&#8221; Harrington said. &#8220;President Trump built a great business, and did nothing wrong.
