Not only is she the <a class=\"BaseAnchor_anchor__vQMDL\" href=\"https:\/\/www.washingtonpost.com\/arts-entertainment\/2021\/12\/02\/jeopardy-amy-schneider-winning-streak\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\"><u class=\"underline\">first transgender contestant<\/u><\/a>, but she recently broke two records for the long-running gameshow: Schneider\u2019s the <a class=\"BaseAnchor_anchor__vQMDL\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/01\/07\/arts\/television\/amy-schneider-jeopardy.html\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\"><u class=\"underline\">first woman to win $1 million<\/u><\/a>. And she has the <a class=\"BaseAnchor_anchor__vQMDL\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/amy-schneider-jeopardy-consecutive-wins-matt-amodio-second-place\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\"><u class=\"underline\">second-longest winning streak<\/u><\/a> in the show\u2019s history \u2014 with 39 consecutive victories. The news comes weeks after she shattered James Holzhauer&#x27;s third-place record of 32 games. \u201c<a class=\"BaseAnchor_anchor__vQMDL\" href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2022\/01\/25\/1075546531\/jeopardy-amy-schneider-2nd-highest-winning-streak\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\"><u class=\"underline\">It still feels unreal<\/u><\/a>,&quot; Schneider said. <br \/>Earlier this month, the <a class=\"BaseAnchor_anchor__vQMDL\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cbssports.com\/mlb\/news\/yankees-rachel-balkovec-becomes-first-woman-named-minor-league-manager-will-take-over-low-a-club\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\"><u class=\"underline\">New York Yankees introduced<\/u><\/a> Rachel Balkovec as the new manager of the Tampa Tarpons. (Read: their affiliate team in the minor leagues.) She\u2019s the first woman to manage a minor league team on a full-time basis. And was previously the first female hitting coach for the Yankees. Bat-her up.\u00a0<br \/>On Jan. 9, Michaela Ja\u00e9 \u201cMj\u201d Rodriguez, 31, became the first transgender woman to win <a class=\"BaseAnchor_anchor__vQMDL\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2022\/01\/10\/entertainment\/michaela-jae-rodriguez-golden-globes-cec\/index.html\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\"><u class=\"underline\">a Golden Globe<\/u><\/a> for best actress in a TV drama. Thanks to her role as Blanca on the FX series \u201cPose.\u201d Since broadcasters refused to air the award show (amid <a class=\"BaseAnchor_anchor__vQMDL\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theskimm.com\/news\/how-calls-for-diversity-and-inclusion-are-flipping-the-script-in-hollywood-3RgIvmfiyckq6ecYUB3na9\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\"><u class=\"underline\">calls for racial diversity<\/u><\/a> within the Hollywood Foreign Press Association), the Golden Globes were handed out privately. But Rodriguez went on Instagram Live to give her <a class=\"BaseAnchor_anchor__vQMDL\" href=\"https:\/\/www.npr.org\/2022\/01\/10\/1071828269\/michaela-jae-rodriguez-golden-globes-pose\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\"><u class=\"underline\">speech<\/u><\/a>, dedicating the award to \u201cthe LGBTQAI, Black, Latina, Asian, the many multi beautiful colors of the rainbow around the freaking world.\u201d<br \/>She\u2019s soaring, flying. At 19 years old, Zara Rutherford just became the youngest person to circumnavigate the globe. Her journey started in Belgium in August. And was <a class=\"BaseAnchor_anchor__vQMDL\" href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2022\/01\/20\/world\/europe\/zara-rutherford-plane-pilot.html?smid=tw-nytimes&amp;smtyp=cur\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\"><u class=\"underline\">filled with obstacles and delays<\/u><\/a> \u2014\u00a0including thunderstorms, wildfire smoke, lightning, and ice. But after 155 days, she finally landed back home. When her trip ended, she said she wanted to inspire women around the world with the spirit of aviation. Mission, accomplished.<br \/>As a part of the <a class=\"BaseAnchor_anchor__vQMDL\" href=\"https:\/\/catalog.usmint.gov\/american-women-quarters-proof-set-enrollment-MG.html?cm_sp=LP1-_-awq-prf-set-MG-_-110521&amp;scp=AWQ\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\"><u class=\"underline\">American Women Quarters Program<\/u><\/a> the US Mint is honoring Maya Angelou. And started producing <a class=\"BaseAnchor_anchor__vQMDL\" href=\"https:\/\/apnews.com\/article\/entertainment-business-barack-obama-poetry-maya-angelou-9381e0c0620b3f0370cbb6aff699d484?utm_source=Twitter&amp;utm_campaign=SocialFlow&amp;utm_medium=AP\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\"><u class=\"underline\">quarter<\/u><\/a>s with the author and poet&#x27;s face on it. On the coin (see: above), a bird and rising sun are depicted behind her \u2014\u00a0the image was inspired by her best-selling and highly-acclaimed autobiography \u201c<a class=\"BaseAnchor_anchor__vQMDL\" href=\"https:\/\/amzn.to\/3KXWp1l\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\"><u class=\"underline\">I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings<\/u><\/a>.\u201d The program will come out with new quarters every year until 2025. And expect to see other boss women like Dr. Sally Ride and Wilma Mankiller on coins in the near future. It just makes cents.<br \/>She\u2019s a Barbie girl, in Ida B. Wells\u2019s world. The Black journalist, suffragist, and anti-lynching activist is <a class=\"BaseAnchor_anchor__vQMDL\" href=\"https:\/\/creations.mattel.com\/collections\/barbie-inspiring-women-series\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\"><u class=\"underline\">starring<\/u><\/a> in Barbie\u2019s \u201c<a class=\"BaseAnchor_anchor__vQMDL\" href=\"https:\/\/creations.mattel.com\/collections\/barbie-inspiring-women-series\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\"><u class=\"underline\">Inspiring Women<\/u><\/a>\u201d series. The company said they included Wells because she brought \u201clight to the stories of injustice that Black people faced in her lifetime.\u201d The doll went on <a class=\"BaseAnchor_anchor__vQMDL\" href=\"https:\/\/www.mattel.com\/products\/ida-b-wells-barbie-inspiring-women-doll-hcb81\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\"><u class=\"underline\">sale<\/u><\/a> on MLK Day. Other icons in the Barbie series will include Ella Fitzgerald, Rosa Parks, and more. <br \/>Meet, Corinne Tan. She\u2019s all dolled up and ready for the slopes. Oh, and she\u2019s also <a class=\"BaseAnchor_anchor__vQMDL\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/american-girl-doll-corinne-tan-chinese-american-girl-of-the-year\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\"><u class=\"underline\">American Girl\u2019s <\/u><\/a>first Chinese-American \u201cGirl of the Year\u201d doll. The company says Corinne is from a blended family in Aspen, CO and loves to ski. It also announced a partnership with AAPI Youth Rising \u2014 to raise awareness about growing xenophobia and <a class=\"BaseAnchor_anchor__vQMDL\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theskimm.com\/news\/history-of-anti-asian-racism-in-the-united-states-3eBqGfaF6V0gIo76VYXtUZ\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\"><u class=\"underline\">anti-Asian racism<\/u><\/a>. All of the American Girl characters come with a book series. And Corinne\u2019s series, written by Wendy Shan, <a class=\"BaseAnchor_anchor__vQMDL\" href=\"https:\/\/www.cbsnews.com\/news\/american-girl-doll-corinne-tan-chinese-american-girl-of-the-year\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\"><u class=\"underline\">confronts racism<\/u><\/a> head-on.<br \/>Let&#x27;s rewind back to August, when the chaotic American evacuation from <a class=\"BaseAnchor_anchor__vQMDL\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theskimm.com\/news\/examining-the-us-afghanistan-war-history-impact-and-future-1Vu7ZiYaZ7Vg1UkKGbQ67h\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\"><u class=\"underline\">Afghanistan<\/u><\/a> was underway. Shail was later found in the airport by a taxi driver, who started raising the boy as his own. Weeks later, the child was finally returned to his relatives in January.<br \/>The highly contagious <a class=\"BaseAnchor_anchor__vQMDL\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theskimm.com\/news\/omicron-what-to-know-about-the-newest-covid-19-variant-73khP367dxsaNRnjWO8zBe\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\"><u class=\"underline\">Omicron<\/u><\/a> variant is running rampant in the US \u2014 making <a class=\"BaseAnchor_anchor__vQMDL\" href=\"https:\/\/www.theskimm.com\/news\/thing-to-know-covid-19-tests-7CUDzY1SmW3g2wClB6gAaq\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\"><u class=\"underline\">COVID-19 testing<\/u><\/a> and protection even more important. And every household can get four <a class=\"BaseAnchor_anchor__vQMDL\" href=\"https:\/\/www.covidtests.gov\/\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"noopener\"><u class=\"underline\">tests<\/u><\/a>. This is not a drill. <br \/>The Girl Scout Cookie lineup left no crumbs this year.
