The project began in July 2021 and is taking place on a 13-mile stretch from the Pennsylvania State line to just beyond exit 60 at milepost 483.<br \/><span class=\"quotations\">&#8220;Western New York is a gateway to tourism, commerce and economic growth.&#8221;<\/span> Thruway Authority Executive Director Matthew J. Driscoll said. <span class=\"quotations\">&#8220;The pavement improvements on this section of the Thruway will enhance safety and reliability for the thousands of motorists and commercial traffic who travel this stretch every day.&#8221;<\/span><br \/>The project includes full depth pavement rehabilitation and reconstruction of the eastbound lanes including exit 61 (Ripley-Shortman Road) and exit 60 (Westfield-Mayville- NY Route 394) and associated ramps with each.  Additional work includes safety improvements such as reflective line striping for enhanced safety, extensive guide rail replacement, drainage improvements and signage.<br \/>Variable Message Signs have been illuminated and to advise motorists of the construction work. The work is weather dependent and subject to change. <br \/>Oakgrove Construction, Inc. of Elma is the contractor for the project. Work is expected to be complete this summer.<br \/>The project was designed to align with New York State&#8217;s Drivers First Initiative to ensure construction will have the least possible impact on motorists.<br \/>Motorists may encounter lane closures on the Thruway along with traffic shifts and stoppages while work is underway.<br \/>Motorists are reminded that in New York State, fines are doubled for speeding in a work zone.
